So the weather turned "winter nasty" again about the time I finished another round of edits on The Spinster's Fortune. I rewarded myself by heading into the kitchen and making the bread that my main character, Margaret, has toasted in one of her last scenes: oatmeal molasses bread. The recipe is from the OlneyAle House, a restaurant/institution located about fifteen miles outside of D.C. If you look closely enough, you can see it is reprinted from the Washington Post, 7/1972. Full disclosure: I take A LOT of liberties with ingredients and measurements. It's more of a nostalgic baking adventure for me. But it always ends up good toasted.
